As I may have at some other time, I do, enjoy reading Knitting Blogs. One that I follow is Queer Joe’s blog. He is very talented and has a great eye for color. He knits, sews, crochets, quilts and of course he blogs.

Joe is very open about his political thoughts and views and he usually includes those thoughts in his blogs.

In reply to Joes comment, yes, Joe, I believe you do watch to much MSBC political news.  I as a republican watch FOX news but I do so in small quantities. After a while you find they are simply saying the same thing over and over again with nothing new added. My sister calls them all “The Talking Heads” regardless of political party.

Please note: The GOP is not holding Washington captive and the GOP is not trying to shut down the Government.

My solution to the problem is simply this, A Bill must contain only 1 (one) item in the Bill. It may not contain other items in the  bill ( this is what we currently call “pork” )  If they voted on 1 bill containing only 1 item in the bill, thinentgs would run much smoother.

On Obamacare. Please note that the GOP is not against Obamacare because of Obama’s color. This isn’t about color or race. It is about the Obamacare Law is Bad for American’s in general. It matters not if you are rich, middle class or poor, this law is bad for ALL of us. Take the time to read the bill it is available online. And let me ask you this question….. Do you really want a IRS agent deciding your health care?

To Wrap and Turn or just Turn. That is the question of the day.

Okay so I have finally had my aw ha moment with the Toe Up socks pattern and I’ve been spending my days knitting Toe Up socks. Some for me, a pair for my son, his had to be orange and blue for the Florida Gators. ( to be worn only on game days).

I am currently working on a pair of socks for my daughter in law, When I learned Toe Up sock knitting the one thing I had to wrap my mind around was the Heel knitting part. Short rows with Wrap and Turn. I don’t  mind short rowing but I am not happy with the end results of the Wrap and Turn part.  That being said, I set out to find a easier and nicer looking short row.

This is what I came up with. Instead of wrapping the stitch, I just turned my work around at the stitch that should be wrapped. No wrapping, just turn and knit my way back across the heel to the next stitch that is to be turned. When I make the turn, I always slip that first stitch ( which is the last stitch that I knitted). I am very happy with the end results and will continue to just turn and not wrap from now on. 🙂

The Aw Ha Moment

Okay so I’ve been seeing a lot of knitting blogs singing the praises of knitting socks via the toe up. I do enjoy knitting socks and have made many socks for myself so I thought I’d take a  stab of trying the toe up sock.  My first attempt was probably 2 years ago. I watched U Tube videos on the topic and I read directions on the topic and I just could not get my head wrapped around it. I also looked at the Majic Loop method. Well 2 years later I gave it another try this week and I finally got my AW Ha moment.

I mastered both ways, Toe Up with DPN’s and Toe Up  the Majic Loop way.  Personally, I prefer the DPN Toe Up method, I find with the Magic Loop way there is way to much time spent on moving stitches and such so you can knit a sock on a circuler needle.

The DPN was is less fussy and once I discovered the Provisional Cast on and how to do short rows via wrap and turn, I was good to go. I figure I can knit a pair of socks in a day.

Yes, I said a day! For me its no problem spending a day knitting since I am now unemployed (Thank you, Hallmark ….Yes pun was intended and I am not speaking of the gretting card company, I am referring to the company out of Atlanta that has rental properties ) and also still recuperating from 2 major operations within a 2 month period. UGH…….

So for those of you who would like to try a new way of knitting socks from the toe up, I highly recommend you use U tube as a means of learning the toe up method. puts great U Tube videos up on a variety of topics and the gal that does them is very easy to understand and follow.

Have a great day,

September and only 16 weeks until Christmas

Okay, This year has flown by so quickly. I can’t believe it already September! My daaughter will turn 32 on the 13th and one of my grandsons will be 14 on the 23rd.  My, my, how time flys.

My mom said one of her co=workers said to her that we are only 16 weeks away from X-mass. I looked at my mom in disbelief. Where has this year gone to?

Really, I have yet to make it through Holloween and Thanksgiving and suddenly I have to think about x-mass….ugh

The retailer love the holidays, as for me I look to the holidays with dread. They’ve all  tbecome all about money and we have lost the real meaning of the holidays. As for holloween, I could care less about. Holloween is what keeps the vampires, ghosts and gooles, witches etc in the spotlight. Filling kids full of suger candy is not something that I care to do so the lights stay off in the house on holloween.

No, I’m not a old fart, I just stopped buying into all the commercailization of the holidays.

For me. Thanksgiving and Christmas is all about being with your family and good friends. Sharing laughter, good food, and conversation.  Maybe its age that has caused me to look at the holidays differently. I am sure that lack of money has played a roll in all this. Retailer will  never getr rich off of me, that is for sure.

Orphen sock or Knitters block?

Is there such a thing as knitters block or are some knitted things just destined to never be completed?

My current project is a pair of purple socks. The kind that you just wear around the house to keep your feet from being naked or from getting cold. I have no intention of wearing them outside of the house and perhaps thats what the problem is. They are destined to be ghost socks.  I found some pretty deep purple yarn on clearence at Wally World and bought 2 skeins of it. Its just pain ol run of the mill yarn, nothing special but I loved the color and thought I’d knit up at least a pair of socks out of it. Well the 1st sock is ready to be finished off at the toe and I just can’t seem to bring myself to finish it so I can start on the 2nd sock.

I also have a pair of socks that are almost finished with the exception of finishing off the toe of the 2nd sock. I am so happy with them. For the first time I ordered a hank of beautiful sock yarn from the Brooklyn Store online and I have so enjoyed knitting the yarn. The order was a splurge for me as I am normally stuck to Walmart yarn department which leaves much to be desired in the way of choices and brands.

My dream is to own a yarn shop, one that has all those fabulous textures, colors, and all the wonderful things that makes my head spin when I see all of them. There is nothing more wonderful to me than getting the chance to go to a real Yarn shop. The closet one to me is 40 miles away 😦    and I don’t get to go there as often as I’d like to.  I fear if I opened a shop in the town I live in, I’d be out of business before I could blink a  eye. I know there are a lot of people in my town that knit and crochet but I have noticed that the yarns they use are mainly yarns that you buy at Walmart or one of the chain craft stores.

I’d also love to do a knitting class for beginner knitters but have yet to figure out how much to charge for the class. Do I supply the needles and yarn or do I give them a list of items for them to buy. The one thing I have figured out is what their first knitting project would be.

Lately I have been trying to learn how to knit a sock from the Toe Up but I have yet to master the Toe Up part. Gerrrrrr……… I am sure that once I master it, I will look back and say , “Okay Deb so it took you this long to learn, because why? “

The power of Prayer is awesome and there have been many people around the country praying for me. I’ve had the second surgery and I’m on the mend. A lot has happened to me since the end of May. I was blessed to have a group of fabulous doctors taking care of me and some awesome nurses and the sweetist PT guy. I am greatful to eaach and everyone of them. The UF of Shands Hospital in Gainesville Florida is a awesome place.

The first surgery was a triple bypass, the second surgery took place about 8 weeks after the bypass. I had a 100 % blockage in my adominal aorita which included blockages to each of my legs. So I had a triple admoninal aorita bypass the first week in August.

After being in the hospital for a week after surgery I came home to my apartment and a few days later received a letter by FedEx from my supervisor that I was terminated from my job and had 1 week in which to move out of my apartment. So much for being an onsite apartment / property manager! Your job and the roof over your head are literly tied together. Thank God for my kids and my mom. My kids spent their free time packing up my apartment and moving me into my mothers home. My mom has been by my side watching over me and she and my daughter have taken time out of their busy day to help me bathe and just do the normal things for me. Having a triple bypass is hell. Saying it hurts doesn’t even begin to describe the pain. I think the 2nd surgery was a little easier than the 1st one.

Losing a job that I really loved and my apartment was horrible and I think it is horrible that a company would fire an employee when they were out on sick leave. I mean really, I had the heart attack while I was working for them and then they terminate my employment.  Shame on them. Oh yes, the company is The Hallmark Co. LLC. they own over 250 apartment complexes across the south. They pay their managers peanuts and work them to death and if you are a part-time employee you have no sick time, paid vacations, or any other perk. Oh they do offer you a apartment for free but its attached to the complex office and you end up working 24-7 instead of part-time.

So I am 2 days away from my first post op check up . I have neuropathy in both feet and constant pain in my left leg causing me to walk with a limp and with a walker.

My belief is that I had the admonimal aorita blockage for so long that the lack of blood flow to my legs and feet is what has caused this issue.

Amazing that for weeks I went to the chriopracter for treatment of leg pain and I end up with a heart attack and abdominal aorita blockage.  Side effects have been loss of appitate weight loss and depression. I can cry at the blink of an eye and that sucks.

I have to remind myself that I am Blessed. I had fabulous doctors, wonderful health care, a family that loves me dearly and a God who watches over me. I have no health insurance yet I am alive. Yes, God is good and wonderful and He looks after His children.
