The joys of the internet and bloggers that knit

It seems like only yesterday that  internet became a part of our homes and lives. I remember my first pc, a desktop of course. My mom bought it for me, it came straight from Wal-Mart in a nice big box and I remember thinking please God don’t let me break it. Windows 3.1 was the OS and it had no internet connection but heck I didn’t even know the internet existed. Perhaps  it did exist  just not in the rural community that I lived in.

These days  I am lost without my pc., I am one of those who refuses to learn how to and refuses to buy a new fangled cell phone that lets me do anything with and from my cell phone. I am a creature of habit, I like my laptop. I also like the fact that I can make the fonts on my pc as large as I need them to be in order to read. Can’t do that on a 3 inch cell phone screen.

With the invention of the internet I have become one of those people who surf the web in search of information ranging from health, bible, knitting and politics and many things in between.

I have taught myself to knit fairly well using the computer, the internet, and Youtube,  It only took my 2 years and the correct Youtube video to finally learn how to knit socks via the toe up method. Facebook was around for  a number of years before I ventured into becoming a Facebook addy. I try to keep my political rants on my Facebook page only. These days we all have varied opinions of who things should or should not be running in Washington and for the most part all I can say is Washington DC is in one big cluster muck. I use to do spring cleaning each spring and I think it may be overdue for a good spring cleaning in the capital.  Maybe it should be a requirement for all Senators, and Congressmen to be able to knit while working and maybe they’d have a clearer vision of what our country is in need of. Oh well it will never happen but its fun to think about……Mr Speaker……ah yes, give me just a moment Sir, while i finish counting my cast ons……lol

I would like to say THANK YOU to all of you who have passed on your patterns and knowledge to those of us who are learning the craft of knitting. I have learned much from many of you and I have passed on your wisdom and knowledge to others who are wanting to learn.

I have learned to be a fearless FROGGER – RIPPER. My mother shudders when she see’s me doing that. Yes, no one can see the mistake, but I can and I know its there, therefore I frog.  Currently I have 4 skeins of yarn that I cannot for the life of me figure out what to knit it into. I have knit it and I have ripped it out. Its yarn that is just not speaking to me. Perhaps in time it will tell me what it wants to be. Until then I sit and look at it as if willing it to say something, anything other than just sitting there all in a nice neat skein. Maybe tomorrow it will speak.

October is a great month, at least it is here in Florida. Its not winter and we no longer have the hot days of summer, we are in the in-between state of weather. October is also my birth month, I am a Libra. This year has been full of changes and I am still pondering if they were good ones or bad ones. I’ve survived 2 major surgeries which is good. I am still recuperating from them and I have discovered that my life will change drastically. I’ve gone through two break ups in relationships and I find that the 1st one still hurts, the second one I have no feelings about at all. It hurts when you put your all into a relationship and then discover that person is cheating on you. It took a long time for me to open up my heart to love and unfortunately my heart was broken again.  I am not a kid , I am a grown woman and I just do not play games when it comes to matters of the heart and love.  Here is to this new year, I have turned 55 and I am going to be a fabulous 55 year old woman.

The Post the disappeared and after thought sock heels

At the moment I am aggravated. I had almost a whole post written and then suddenly Poof it was gone……grrr  It seems that every laptop pc that I have ever owned has a mind of its own and it either skips lines, inserts words in places I don’t want them to be inserted or they disappear in the blink of an eye.

This morning as I lay awake in bed I started thinking about the new sock I am knitting. I am bad, most nights I sleep with my knitting or my knitting sleeps with me. Oh yes, and my gray cat Khloe sleeps with me and the knitting.   Yes, I am single, hence the reason why I can sleep with all of it.  So this morning I awoke thinking of a article I saw regarding “after thought heels”.  As the writer of the link below, I too wondered why in the world would anyone want or need to do an after thought heel in a sock.

After reading the Yarn Harlots article and seeing her photo’s I had one of those Ah Ha moments. Frankly, I don’t ever see me knitting a after thought heel but if I ever do need to I will refer to the Yarn Harlots instructions.

As I have written before I have been on a roll with knitting socks from the toe up. I’ve knitted a pair for my son, and I finally finished up a pair for his wife and her socks gave me the hardest time, I must have frog back the first sock 7 times before I finally got the length right for her foot. I finally was able to get the 2nd sock knitted and when I got to the ribbing on the leg I ran out of yarn ! I needed to knit less than 1 inch of ribbing and I was out of yarn, I was so upset.

I managed to get to Walmart and was lucky enough to find 1 remaining skein of the yarn that I needed to finish her sock. Yepee, the socks are finished the daughter in law loves them and they fit her too.Woo Hoooooooooooo

On to my next project…..another pair of socks of course!

As you can see I have finished knitting my first pair of fingerless mitts that are my own creation and design.

The last thing I have to do is find the perfect button to add to the cuff of the mitt. I am looking for a diamond stone looking button.  I am so proud of this mitts, They fit nicely and were quite simple to knit . Depending on how you knit they knit up pretty quickly. I’ve written down the pattern but I am not sure how easy the pattern is for someone to follow since this is my first attempt at writing a pattern.

Knitting Blogs and other such things.

As I may have at some other time, I do, enjoy reading Knitting Blogs. One that I follow is Queer Joe’s blog. He is very talented and has a great eye for color. He knits, sews, crochets, quilts and of course he blogs.

Joe is very open about his political thoughts and views and he usually includes those thoughts in his blogs.

In reply to Joes comment, yes, Joe, I believe you do watch to much MSBC political news.  I as a republican watch FOX news but I do so in small quantities. After a while you find they are simply saying the same thing over and over again with nothing new added. My sister calls them all “The Talking Heads” regardless of political party.

Please note: The GOP is not holding Washington captive and the GOP is not trying to shut down the Government.

My solution to the problem is simply this, A Bill must contain only 1 (one) item in the Bill. It may not contain other items in the  bill ( this is what we currently call “pork” )  If they voted on 1 bill containing only 1 item in the bill, thinentgs would run much smoother.

On Obamacare. Please note that the GOP is not against Obamacare because of Obama’s color. This isn’t about color or race. It is about the Obamacare Law is Bad for American’s in general. It matters not if you are rich, middle class or poor, this law is bad for ALL of us. Take the time to read the bill it is available online. And let me ask you this question….. Do you really want a IRS agent deciding your health care?

To Wrap and Turn or just Turn. That is the question of the day.

Okay so I have finally had my aw ha moment with the Toe Up socks pattern and I’ve been spending my days knitting Toe Up socks. Some for me, a pair for my son, his had to be orange and blue for the Florida Gators. ( to be worn only on game days).

I am currently working on a pair of socks for my daughter in law, When I learned Toe Up sock knitting the one thing I had to wrap my mind around was the Heel knitting part. Short rows with Wrap and Turn. I don’t  mind short rowing but I am not happy with the end results of the Wrap and Turn part.  That being said, I set out to find a easier and nicer looking short row.

This is what I came up with. Instead of wrapping the stitch, I just turned my work around at the stitch that should be wrapped. No wrapping, just turn and knit my way back across the heel to the next stitch that is to be turned. When I make the turn, I always slip that first stitch ( which is the last stitch that I knitted). I am very happy with the end results and will continue to just turn and not wrap from now on. 🙂
